Production of the Bone Chair
Infographic by onlab
The Bone Chair’s design is based on the growth principle of trees and bones, according to which material is accumulated at points of high stress and removed at points of low stress. A special software from the automotive industry performs this task and calculates the ideal form of the chair, which is then produced in an aluminum casting process: ceramic molds are made, assembled, and filled with liquid aluminum using 3D printers. After the light metal has set, the mold is removed and, finally, the chair is polished.
